Rows & Columns

This page covers changing the structure of your sheet: adding and removing rows and columns, moving and resizing columns, hiding columns, freezing panes, row height, and jumping to a row.

Inserting rows

• Bottom bar: with no rows selected, tap Add Row to append a row at the bottom.
• Row menu: long-press a row number to get Insert Row Above and Insert Row Below.
• Bottom bar (row selected): select one or more rows (tap the row numbers), then tap Insert Above or Insert Below.

Deleting rows

Select one or more rows by tapping their row numbers, then either:

• Tap Delete Row(s) in the bottom bar, or
• Long-press a row number → Delete Row (or Delete N Rows for a multi-row selection).

Inserting columns

• Bottom bar: with no columns selected, tap Add Column to append a column on the right.
• Column menu: long-press a column header to get Insert Column Before and Insert Column After.
• Bottom bar (column selected): select a column (tap its header), then tap Insert Left or Insert Right.

Deleting columns

Select one or more columns by tapping their headers, then either:

• Tap Delete Column(s) in the bottom bar, or
• Long-press a column header → Delete Column (or Delete N Columns).

Moving (reordering) columns

1. Tap a column header to select that single column.
2. Drag the header left or right. An indicator shows where it will land.
3. Release to drop the column in its new position.

Dragging near the edge auto-scrolls so you can move a column across a wide sheet.

Resizing columns

Each column header has a resize grip at its right edge. Drag the grip left or right to make the column narrower or wider. Columns can be widened up to a generous maximum, which is handy for long text or link columns.

Hiding and showing columns

Hidden columns disappear from view but keep their data and are still saved with the file.

To hide:

• Long-press a column header → Hide Column (or Hide N Columns when several are selected).
• Or select columns → bottom bar Hide.

To show again:

• More (•••) menu → Manage Columns opens a panel listing every column — tap the eye to show or hide it, or the type chip to change its column type.
• More menu → Show All Columns, or a column menu's Show All Columns, reveals everything at once.

Note

You can't hide the last visible column — at least one column always stays on screen. When any column is hidden, the More (•••) button shows a filled icon as a reminder.

Freezing panes

Freezing keeps header rows or key columns pinned while you scroll the rest of the sheet. Open the Freeze menu (in the toolbar, or the overflow menu on iPhone):

Option	Effect
Freeze Top Row	Pins row 1 while you scroll down
Freeze First Column	Pins column A while you scroll right
Freeze Panes at Selection	Freezes all rows above and all columns left of the selected cell
Unfreeze Panes	Removes all freezing (shown only when something is frozen)

Freezing is a view setting — it isn't saved into the file.

Row height

Prefer compact rows or roomier ones? Open the Row Height menu and choose:

• Small (the default, compact)
• Medium
• Large

Unlike freezing, row height is saved with the file, so it looks the same next time you open it.

Go to Row

To jump straight to a specific row in a large file:

1. In the bottom bar (nothing selected), tap Go to Row.
2. Enter the row number (1-based, matching the row headers).
3. Tap Go.

The editor scrolls to and selects that row. If the row is currently hidden by a filter, it jumps to the nearest visible row instead. If the row is beyond the free-tier limit, you'll be prompted to upgrade to Pro.
